An Easy-to-Use Literature Program with Hands-On Activities
This easy-to-use program consists of a worktext guiding students to understand, enjoy, and be enriched by five classic works of children’s literature: The Door in the Wall, The Phantom Tollbooth, The Endless Teppe, Treasure Island, and The Hobbit.
The Treasure Trove of Literature, Level 3 includes:
- Vocabulary assignments
- Reading comprehension questions
- Oral narration assignments
- Literary elements: setting, character, plot, and theme
- Literary devices (hyperbole, perspective, plot twists, and more)
- Literary Connections (studies in geography, history, music, and more referenced in the readings)
- Weekly questions for individual or group discussion
- Six studies of virtuous character qualities and saintly role models
- Weekly hands-on activities
- Final project for each book
Level 3 builds upon Levels 1 and 2 by presenting more in-depth instruction and including more advanced activities for maturing learners. This level challenges students to practice the skills needed to understand works of literature on their own (for example, looking up their own vocabulary words). To encourage independent study, all instructions are directed to the student.
Removable parent resources include:
- complete answer key
- detailed guide to discussion questions
Level 3 does not have a separate Guidebook and Notebook; everything is included in a single worktext. To encourage independent study, all instructions are directed to the student.
Recommended for grades 6-8. The program is designed to be completed in one year, but it could be completed over a longer period. A daily schedule for this program is available in CHC Lesson Plans for Sixth Grade.
