Explore the Continents provides an engaging introduction to world cultures and geography. This hands-on course will guide your child on a directed study of each of the seven continents, featuring:

  • Geography
  • Climate
  • Animals
  • Landmarks
  • Saints

Your child will spend five weeks exploring each continent by researching the continent’s geography, landmarks, saints, and animals in the Children’s Catholic Encyclopedia of Geography.  While researching the continent, your child will create a colourful poster display to pull together the information he or she has learned about the continent.

Explore the Continents includes:

  • Geography term flashcards
  • 250+ full-colour images of animals, landmarks, saints, and local culture for use in making the continent posters
  • Read-aloud book recommendations for each continent
  • A variety of activities including mapping fun, climograph, and creative activities
  • Worksheets on using alphabetical order to look up topics in an encyclopedia
  • Mid-year and year-end reviews

Research Skills
Besides learning about geography and world cultures, your child will also learn important research skills. These skills include:

  • Alphabetization to the third and fourth letter
  • Using an encyclopedia, including encyclopedia guide words
  • Using a glossary
  • Understanding maps

This geography program begins with a series of worksheets that instruct the student in how to use alphabetical order to look up topics in an encyclopedia.

Independent Learning Skills
The program also teaches independent learning skills. All of the information needed to complete the program can be found in the Children's Catholic Encyclopedia of Geography. This means that the child can complete the research independently, without needing parental assistance!

Note7 Continent Maps and Children's Catholic Encyclopedia of Geography are also required to complete this course.
